On 6/16/1942 middle name of Christopher was added for Ernest and a middle name of Sirian was added to Jonas and mother's maiden name of Emmons was added also. They then crossed off birthplace of father Canada and put Michigan and mother's birthplace of New York was crossed off and replaced with Canada. However, I believe these entries are in error as all documents that I have seen for Jonas, his middle initial has always been M. and birthplace of Canada and mother's birthplace is New York. Culp was born in Stanwood, Michigan, July 15, 1858 and lived at home with his parents until he was 18 years of age at which time he began working for himself. About one year later his parents moved to Sparta.    At 33 years of age he was married to, Esther C. harrison of Thompsonville, Mich. Up to the last ten years he has been actively engaged in the lumber business: and the last ten years he has spent in and about Grand Rapids, living in Sparta for one year.    His mother was very well known to all in Sparta and surrounding country. His last illness of one and one-half years has been patiently born and amid great suffering, having one foot amputated and it would be necessary to remove the other.    Beside the widow he leaves three sons Reuben J. and Dewey S. of Grd. Rapids and Erwin J. of Marinette, Wis., one daughter, Mrs. Alto Small and one brother, Ernest of Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held from the Sparta Baptist Church Tuesday p. m. Rev. Harry Walker of Grand Rapids officiated.
