"Thomas Skelton, who for forty years had been a resident of Constantine, died at his home in this village, Thursday, July 7,1898, of heart disease; aged 79 years, 5 months and 11 days. He was born in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, England, Jan, 26, 1819, and came to America in 1856, coming to Constantine in the same year. In 1856, he was married to Susan Steears Pickering, who with seven children, five daughters and two sons, survive him. Mr. Skelton's long residence here gave him a wide acquaintance, and his familiar figure was known to all. The funeral was held from his late residence, on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Pinchard officiating.

Your great grand parents, Mr. Thomas Skelton born in Wesby Moor Near Lincolnshire, England. Mrs. Susan Steears Skelton born at Devonshire, England came to America, landed in Constantine, Mich. were married here, each came here at different times. Susan was married to Henry Pickering before she was married to Thomas Skelton she had two children born a girl Harriet who died early and a boy Henry or Hank as we called him died at middle age. After Pickering death Susan married Thomas Skelton, she and Mr. Skelton died and are
buried in the Skelton lot in Constantine the raised 8 children. John Sylvester Skelton, Elizabeth Maria Skelton, George Benjamin Skelton, he died 1881. Joseph Thomas Skelton, Mary Ann Skelton, Rose Lee Skelton, Francis Demaris Skelton, died in 1873 another born in 1874 named Frances Demoris after the one died the year before. St. Joseph)ss in the County aforesaid, I joined in Marriage Thomas Skelton of Constantine in the State of Mich aged thirty five years and Susan Pickering of Constantine in the State of Mich, aged twenty one years; that the parties did then and there solemnly declair that they took each other as Husband and wife and that there were present as witnesses John Gainsley of Constantine and Wm Moranson of Constantine. Dated at Constantine this thirty first day of October A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine.
