  Notes	(Research):In 1850 he & his family were living in Seneca, Lenawee County, Michigan (U.S. census, p. 301); in1860 the family lived in Fox twp, Black Hawk Co. Iowa (p. 172); in 1870 they lived in Hillsdale, Hillsdale Co. MI (Ward 1, p.2); in 1880 they lived in Carson City, Montcalm Co. MI (p. 17b). These census records aren't always consistent, but they tend to indicate that William was born in Indiana about 1817. In the 1900 census a Wm H. Hibner matching this description was residing as a boarder in the home of Uriah and Mary Arnold in Bridgewater, Washtenaw Co., MI (p. 171a-171b). He died in Bridgewater on January 24, 1904. The state death certificate gives his parents as Joseph Hibner and Lidy Pratt; the county death record gives his mother's name as Lydia. The Mary Arnold he was residing with died on April 19, 1911. Her death certificate says she was the daughter of Joseph Hibner, so it looks like she was Wm H.'s sister. [3]

Notes for ELLA MAY HIBNER: When I posted my message I asked Lelia for a copy of her picture of my great grandmother Ella Mae (Hibner) Foster.  She provided it to me, and also sent an old letter which mentioned that Ella was an adopted child.  This came as a shock (especially to my mother), but it wasn't a complete surprise.  It explains why Ella was quietly omitted from the list of William & Mary Hibner's children in Lazell's Straight genealogy.  In addition, the census records indicate that Mary Hibner was 47 or 48 when Ella was born, which would have been a remarkably advanced age at which to give birth.
