Robert Zane Cutshall, of Overbrook Acres, Mount Union, left this life on his 83rd birthday, Wednesday, February 13, at 5:50 p.m. at his home. Funeral service was held on Monday, February 18 at the Martin Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Canankamp officiating. Interment was made privately at Orbisonia Cemetery. He was born February, 13, 1925 in Mount Union and he was the son of the late Dorsey Rexford and Dorcas Lacea (Price) Cutshall. He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, the former Gail Marie Dunn, at their home. They were married on April 11, 1947 by the Rev. Charles Littleton at Orbisonia. Mr. Cutshall was also survived by the following children: Deborah Ann Cutshall of Clarks Summit and Robert Dunn Cutshall of Liberty Lake WA. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Rachel Calin Muroki; Abigail Grace Calin; Caroline Cutshall Collins and Charles Clayton Cutshall and four great grandchildren: Caden and Tia Collins and Adriana and Ava Cutshall. He also is survived by the following three sisters: Mildred Conklin of Albuquerque, NM; Gail Beddow of Honolulu, HI and Margery Castro of Atlanta, GA. One brother, Ralph Cutshall preceded in death. Mr. Cutshall was a 1942 graduate of Orbisonia High School and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific as a Radio Aviation Airman, First Class, receiving several ribbons,medals and commendations, including one from the Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, "For meritorious and efficient performance of duty as a crew member of a Navy Patrol bomber during a rescue mission in the Bismark Archipelago. Despite the danger of shells landing nearby. Cutshall calmly and capably assisted in the rescue of a fighter pilot who had been forced down in the waters off New Ireland. After moving his family to California, Mr. Cutshall had a long career in law enforcement with the Alameda County Sheriff's Department. Upon his retirement in 1976, he moved back to the Huntingdon County area where he had grown up. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union and Bricktown Senior Citizens Center. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, gardening, crossword puzzles and conversing with others. Robert Zane Cutshall was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather and liked nothing more than to have his family around him. He often said that he had had a great life and that God had had His hand on him. He truly had a heart of gold and his family will miss him greatly. The Valley Log, Orbisonia, Pa., February 11, 2008
