      Frances Anna , known as Annie, attended Ottawa Normal School in 1894. She was teaching in the school at Carleys Corners in 1897 when Ivan Baker, Bert's father,  went to school there. At that time the school was known as Garrets School. Annie also taught Sunday School to the Senior Class at Merrickville United Church in her later years.

      Miss F.A. Scott Laid To Rest
      Miss Frances Anna Scott, prominent Merrickville resident, died at the Stepping Stone Guest House, Easton's Corners, on Tues Dec. 7, 1965. She was in her 95th year. Born in Montague Township, Miss Scott was the daughter of the late William Scott and his wife, the former Rachael pearson. After receiving her early education in the Montague and Smiths Falls schools she studied for a teacher at the Ottawa Normal School.Her first school to teach in was at Carleys Corners. She also taught in Merrickville and at Carp before joining the staff at City View, Ottawa,where she taught until her retirement.
      About 1931 Miss Scott and her sister came to Merrickville to live in the home built by their father.
      Miss Scott was a member of the United Church and all her life she was active in the work of the church and its organizations. She had been superintendent in the Sunday School  and teacher of a boys class for many years.She was a life member of the Women's Missionary Society and a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
      Her sister, Miss Mary Emily Scott,died in 1943.
      Miss Scott rested at the home of Mrs. Fred Lannin, Merrickville. The funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev G.W. Howse conducted the service.Interment was at Union Cemetery, Merrickville.The pallbearers were Fred Dougall, Kenneth Whaley, Clifford Knapp, Harold Wilson and Ronald Patterson.
