George Thomas STEARS respected Three Rivers citizen for 43 years, a native of St. Joseph county, and for eight years a county supervisor representing the city, died at six o'clock this morning.

Mr. STEARS had been in ailing health for five years, but had remained at his work as bookkeeper for the Three Rivers Plating Works, and had been able to enjoy his last Christmas. His illness was a heart affectation.

George Thomas STEARS was born in Constantine township St. Joseph county on Sept. 15, 866, a son of William and Francis (HAYLOCK) STEARS. He grew to manhood in Constantine township, attending the Constantine village schools from which he graduated as class valedictorian.

Before coming to Three Rivers, he had been a resident of Constantine and Florence township. He was married to Abigail JACOBS in 1891. Mrs. STEARS died on Feb. 2, 1939.

Mr. STEARS represented the city of Three Rivers, in which he has been resident the past 43 years, for eight years a supervisor up to 1918. He was a member of the Methodist church.

For the past four years he had been employed as bookkeeper for Three Rivers Plating Works. Prior to that for eight years he was with the A.T. Van Alstyn company. He was for many years employed by the John Griffiths Hardware company here and following that had been for many years with the Fairbanks, Morse and company offices.

Mr. STEARS was an honest, and faithful employee, a kind friend and a good neighbor and was among the better known citizens.

He is survived by one son, Benjamin H. STEARS of Three Rivers; one daughter, Mrs. Freda O'DELL of Williamston, Mich., three sisters, Mrs. Hattie DOWNS of North Star, Mich., Mrs. Andrew CRANER of Three Rivers and Mrs. Joseph NOSS of Lawton, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held from the STEARS home, 314 East Michigan avenue, Sunday at three o'clock in the afternoon with Rev. Lester L. Case officiating. Interment will be made at Riverside cemetery. Funeral arrangements are in charge of Thomas Geisler, Constantine.
